Explore the amazing journey of a monumental ancient Egyptian statue of a divine falcon, dated to the reign of Amenhotep III (1390–1352 BCE). In 1923, at 1,800 pounds and nearly six feet tall, the falcon arrived in Boston in fragments and underwent a bold reconstruction in the 1970s. Discover the unusual properties of granodiorite, the stone the falcon is made from, and the object’s current treatment as the MFA prepares to put it back on view after 30 years.
